Some Tips To Manage Acne

Acne got you down?  You're not alone!

Among the 50 million Americans who suffer from acne, many feel that their breakouts negatively impact their self-confidence, affecting everything from their mental health to their social calendars.

If you're experiencing frequent breakouts, here are a few tips to help you effectively manage acne breakouts:

Cleanse Gently
Use a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser to wash your face twice a day. Avoid scrubbing aggressively, as it can irritate the skin and worsen acne.

Moisturize Appropriately

Even if you have oily skin, it's essential to use a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer to maintain skin hydration. Look for products labeled as non-comedogenic to prevent clogging your pores.

Avoid Picking and Popping

As tempting as it may be, avoid picking, squeezing, or popping your acne lesions. This can lead to further inflammation, scarring, hyperpigmentation, and the spread of bacteria.

Protect Your Skin From The Sun

UV rays can worsen acne and increase the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily, even on cloudy days.

Manage Stress
Stress can aggravate acne. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as practicing mindfulness, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep.

See Your Dermatologist

If you're struggling with acne, see a board-certified dermatologist for a personalized skincare regime to clear up your skin and prevent future scarring in the long-term.
